Apple is Taking Flight!

Apple is constructing new headquarters and it looks like it may have flight capabilities.  Being built in Cupertino, CA this looks to be the most awesome building ever. It will be constructed on 175 acres near I-280.  Said to have 2.5 million square feet, it will have a 1,000 seat auditorium, fitness center, a power plant, and underground parking.

Breaking ground in 2015, it will be home to more than 12,000 Apple employees.  For more pictures, click here.

If you don’t know it, you can’t see it

The date was 1942; the location was Muroc Army Air Field (today Edwards Air Force Base). Whenever it was on the ground, the P-59 jet was fitted with a fake propeller for the sake of secrecy. A day came when test-pilot Jack Woolams rented a gorilla suit and took off in the jet wearing it along with a big cigar protruding from his mouth and a derby hat on his head. Once airborne, he found a lone P-38 pilot, pulled alongside, giving the P-38 pilot a clear view of the jet and gorilla suit, then waved. The next day when queried at the local watering hole, not a single P-38 pilot had seen an “escaped gorilla” or knew anything about it. The explanation: why of course, it must be that P-38 pilots could only see what they believed was possible.

We find our clients often in the same state of mind with new technology. If they don’t know it, they can’t see it. That is where we come in. We know it, we can see it. We help our clients imagine the possibilities we can create. It takes an open mind and trust. Together we can create amazing things because all things are possible.

Webinar Connecting to your Customer like Glue

How do you improve your connection to your customer?  How do you make that connection unique, distinct and difficult for others to replicate.  One way is introducing a customized software application into the mix.  With a special program you can impact information, communication and service in such a way that you become an integral part of your customers business.  More than providing excellent service, you can provide a distinct service.  Maybe something that hasn’t been done before, maybe a link that no one else has conceived.

TRI is presenting a one-hour webinar presenting some ideas, concepts and custom applications that may give you something new to consider. It is our intention that you will leave the webinar with a new vision for improving your connection with your customer, becoming an even more important partner in their business cycle.  We will be discussing communication, information and service and different ways you can impact those areas in a special and distinct way.

The webinar is free and will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2011 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. Register herehttp://www.eventbrite.com/event/339075183

What is a webinar?  Think about a webinar as a way you can attend a conference without leaving your desk. Using your computer and telephone, you can hear a presentation (like a conference call) and also see the presenter’s slides (watching over an internet connection) and you may be able to see the presenter as well.

Introducing WhiteboardMobile℠!!!

For years, we have been converting whiteboards to custom software applications.  Why? Because whiteboards are inefficient, ineffective, limited, available only when on site, prone to unintended erasure and generally ugly.  So it is our clients who have asked us to create software to eliminate the use of their whiteboard by creating something that is available at every workstation or remotely through a web site or remote access.

Our latest project WhiteboardMobile provides our clients a custom Headline News whiteboard that is available to their intra-company subscribers (employees, salespeople, field workers, vendors, or even customers) which can be viewed on PC or mobile. It allows our clients to send alerts to the whiteboard simply by sending an email to  msg@whiteboard.mobi with the headline as the subject and the message the body of the email.  Based on the senders email address, the news headline (almost like a tweet on Twitter) will automatically appear for all company subscribers to read no matter where in the world they happen to be.  Each subscriber authorized to publish headlines will have an avatar (picture or icon) which will identify the source.  You can set this web site as the default site in your browser.  You can also schedule the loading of the WhiteboardMobileperiodically so that you can be assured your staff is reviewing it frequently.  Need to let everyone know of an important visitor?  Post it to WhiteboardMobile.  Need to alert staff about an upcoming construction project?  Post it to WhiteboardMobile.

When you (as a subscriber) login to WhiteboardMobilewith your security code WhiteboardMobileremembers the headlines you have read and displays those that you have not at the top of the list so you know you won’t miss out on important news.

Imaginarium

It’s very early as I slip into my imaginarium, that place in my mind where I conjure up what I want to be today, what I want to do, where I want to go and how I want to get there, it dawns on me that we are, in fact, in control of our own destiny. I have said it before many times, it’s just a decision. So why do so many people all around the world make the decision to go to a bad place? Why do people choose to be mean or violent? Why would they not opt for kindness? I am thinking they do not have control over there own destiny. So what gives us the ability to chose our own destiny but not them? How fortunate are we?

I choose to be kind. I choose to be neighborly. I choose to be the best I can be. I do this because it makes me happy. It gives me peace. Today, I will spend some time figuring out a way to help someone else control their own destiny.

TRI Has A 24/7 Emergency Number

Google Voice is a new service from Google allowing you to select a telephone number and connect that number to one or many phones. You can use it to provide a single point of contact – a single number – to connect to many phones – land, mobile or IP. It is a free service unless you are making international calls with the service. So what can you do with it?

This is what we have done with Google Voice at TRI. We have set up a new number. An easy to remember number that will not change. It is 747 (like the jet) – 333 (make up something) – 8743 (TRIF). (747) 333-8743. Cool, right? So how does that help you? It is an emergency number when you need help NOW. That one number will reach out to ALL of us here at TRI no matter when you call or where we are. Someone will either answer or respond to that call within 30 minutes regardless of time of day or day of week, month or year.

You see, at TRI, we have all kinds of telephone service; land-line, cable, IP, toll-free, mobile, fax, skype, sightspeed and home telephone service. There are oodles of ways for you to contact us. But sometimes that in and of itself is a problem! It can get a bit frustrating We understand that sometimes, you just need to talk with someone, anyone, and you need to talk to someone now. Well this is how you can do it. Call 747-333-8743 and all our phones will ring. Someone will answer immediately or respond within 30 minutes. This is a bold commitment that won’t be free, but it will be there if you need it. We have also provided a direct connect to this number using your computer, find it on our contact page at http://www.trif.comwww.trif.com.

For more information on Google Voice, check out the many videos at http://www.google.com/googlevoice/about.html.

Price of Healthcare? Or Executive Compensation Out of Whack?

If you want to live in a 28,000 square foot home like this, take the job as CEO of one of our health care companies. Could the regulations be questioned? The law states: “Compensation is not excessive if reasonable”. Read it for yourself here.

New temporary regulations for non-profit health care compensation were issued in 2001. How is it working? Judge for yourself. Here are some annual compensation figures from 2008 for the CEO’s of our nations largest health care providers:

  • Aetna – $23 Million
  • Caremark RX – 78 Million
  • Cigna – $25 Million
  • Coventry – $14 Million
  • Humana – $10 Million
  • United Health – 13 Million
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts – 3.5 Million

In the case of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, the compensation represented a 26% increase when net income fell49%. Add to this the options available to these executives and you can see pretty clearly that something is broken. Bill McGuire of United Health has $1.6 billion in options. Ron Williams of Aetna has $174 million. Ed Crawford from Caremark Rx has $249 Million, Joel Gemunder from Omnicare has $110 million.

I’ll leave the commentary up to you.

Roman Empire?

Banking reform, is it working?  Are we witnessing similar Roman Empireissues as existed in the fourth and fifth century AD?   We have all learned the history.  Is it similar?  We have a CEO compensation equity issue similar to the health industry.

Is this only the tip of the iceberg?
What is reasonable?

What is right?
Is that for us to decide?
Are we stockholders once removed?

Here are some of the staggering incomes:

  • Wells Fargo CEO; 21.3 Million
  • J.P. Morgan CEO; 15.5 Million
  • Bank of NY Mellon CEO; 14 Million
  • Bank of America CEO; 4.2 Million
  • Capital One CEO; 6.1 Million
  • American Express CEO; 17.4 Million
  • CNA Financial CEO; 10.4 Million
  • Mastercard CEO; 10.3 Million
  • Visa CEO; 13.7 Million

The fact is that these people earn more in an hour than many of their employees make in a year. The same holds true for Walmart, Yahoo, Johnson & Johnson, Phillip Morris, AT&T, CVS, HP, Exxon, Abbott Labs, Travelers, Lincare, Prudential, Brystol-Myers, Aetna, Hess, McDonalds, American Express, Coca-Cola, Heinz and Dow Chemical.  More in an hour than many employees make in a year.  See here for more CEO’s that fit into this category.

Is there a silver lining?  What does it mean that Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google earned $245,322 in 2009.  Does Eric have a new vision? Eric?
